As part of the Sydney Academy of Sport, the Narrabeen Sports Medicine Centre Physiotherapy was established in 1984 by Greg Craig & Ian Collier. Alongside Sports Physicians (Dr Stuart Watson & Dr Ken Crichton) & Orthopaedic Surgeons (Dr M. Cross) they helped developed some of the first multidisciplinary sports medicine centres in Australia -
Both Greg & Ian devoted time to many sports, but their passion lay in Rugby Union -
In setting up a supportive environment -
The clinic has employed many physiotherapists over almost 30 years -
Ian Collier very sadly passed away in 1997 and will always be remembered by those with whom he worked, he taught & in the Ian Collier Memorial Scholarship. This was established in 1998 by the Physiotherapists Registration Board as Ia was “a committed physiotherapist and active member of the New South Wales Physiotherapists Registration Board”. It was set up “with the aim of improving physiotherapy practice for the benefit of the community’ giving “assistance to publish clinical research activity, study project in the field of physiotherapy and distance learning program for non metropolitan physiotherapists” (www.nswrdn.com.au).
In 2005, Katie & Andrew Ryan were fortunate to become partners with Greg at Narrabeen, and in 2007 Greg & Cathy Craig relocated to the Sunshine Coast to open ‘The Knee Joint Sports Physiotherapy’ in Bokarina with APA Sports Physiotherapist Kurt Lisle & Greg’s son, physiotherapist Jordan Craig. Greg is now an APA Specialist Sports Physiotherapist, with the knee as his sub specialty.
In 2010, with the opening of our new clinic at Philip Mall, West Pymble, the clinics had a change of name. Andrew & Katie are currently the directors of The Sports Physio Clinic West Pymble and The Sports Physio Clinic Narrabeen.
